Auli Skiing Winter Games start from 7th January 2011
The 1st South Asian Winter Games will be held in Dehradun and Auli, in the himalayan state of Uttarakhand, India in January 2011. The games are being conducted by the Indian Olympic Association and the Winter Games Federation of India. A grand opening and closing ceremony has been planned on January 10, 2011 and January 16, 2011, in Auli and Dehradun, respectively.

A Bus crashes in Dehradun, 22 dead
A sightseeing bus overturned and plunged into a gorge, killing 22 Indian tourists and injuring 12 others who were visiting a hill town at the foot of the Himalayas in Dehradun. The bus was carrying 52 people back to Haridwar late Wednesday when it flipped over at a curve in the road and rolled down the gorge, landing upside down. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokheriyal visited the injured at Dehradun's hospital and pledged to give each 50,000 rupees ($1,000).

Snowfall in higher reaches of Uttarakhand
Heavy snowfall was received by the higher reaches of Himalayas, while the lower and plain areas experienced light and moderate showers, bringing in a chill across the state.

Orders issued to shoot "man-eating" tiger in Corbett
The Uttarakhand forest department on Thursday issued orders to shoot the tiger, which has killed three women during the past one and a half months in the Corbett Tiger Reserve area.

Authorities in Uttarakhand's Corbett Tiger Reserve have re-opened the famous Bijrani zone for visitors after a gap of four months. The Bijrani zone generally opens for the visitors from Oct 15 to June 15. But this year, the opening was delayed by two days due to ongoing repair of routes within the tiger reserve. Most of the routes were damaged due to recent heavy rains.

Corbett Park and Rajaji National Park reopen from 15 November after 4 month rainy season.

Pilgrimage to Yamunotri suspended
Rain-triggered landslides today blocked vehicular traffic at Banas in Uttarkashi district prompting authorities to suspend the pilgrimage to Yamunotri.

Pilgrimage to Badrinath, Hemkund suspended
After the Gangotri shrine, the pilgrimage to Badrinath temple and Hemkund Sahib gurudwara was suspended today following landslides in Uttarakhand`s Chamoli district.

Delhi deluge continues, road traffic hit
Heavy rains lashed Delhi for the seventh consecutive day Wednesday resulting in endless traffic snarls with knee-deep water on major roads and flooded train tracks leading to some trains being delayed.

The national capital received 9.3 mm of rainfall from Tuesday morning till 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. A total of 701.6 mm of rain has been received so far during this monsoon, 43 percent above average.

The month of August alone has recorded 444 mm of rains so far - the highest in 10 years. The Yamuna also continued to flow above the danger mark and more people were evacuated from low-lying areas.

18 children killed as roof of school collapses in Uttarakhand
At least 18 children were buried alive and six others injured on Wednesday when the roof of a primary school collapsed following heavy rains in Kapkot area of Uttarakhand's Bageshwar district. Six other children were also rescued safely with minor injuries from the debris. Nearly a dozen houses were also flattened due to incessant rains in the nearby Harsiabagad area due to a cloudburst.

Cloudburst cuts off Badrinath road, pilgrims stuck
Cloud burst on Monday flooded the Alakananda which washed away the road from Badrinath to Vishnuprayag. Around 5000 are still trapped near Lambagarh and Barhaharhi. Thousands of devotes at Govind Ghat, Badrinath and Joshimath are still waiting for the road to open.
