Haridwar
Situated at the base of Shivalik Hills, Haridwar is a famous religious city. Thousands of tourists visit Haridwar to have a holy dip in he holy Ganges that comes down from the Himalayas. According to Hindus, Haridwar is one of the seven holiest places in India.
The city derives its name from two words, Hari (meaning God) and Dwar (Gate). The city of Haridwar is home to innumerable temples. Temples are sprawling in each and every corner of the city. The temples of Haridwar are highly revered. Haridwar located in the foothills of the Himalayas in the north Indian state of Uttaranchal represents the point where the Ganga reaches the plains. Here we will visit Har Ki Pauri, Mansa Devi, Chandi Devi, Maya Devi, Daksha Mahadev Temple, Bharat Mata Temple
Rishikesh
Rishikesh represents the Gateway to the Himalayas in the
Tehri-Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Rishikesh is located at a height of about 1360 feet above sea level. Several temples dot the banks of the Ganga at Rishikesh. Here we will see Geeta Bhavan, Lakshmanan Jhula, Ram Jhula, Bharat Mandir, Parmarth Niketan, Triveni Ghat and Vasishtha Goofa. In Rishikesh, the winters last from November to March, when temperatures fall below 0°C. The monsoons are generally experienced in the months of July and August. Rishikesh is one of the favorite tourist spots for the adventure lovers as well, challenging white water river rafting is also another of the adventures sports in foaming rivers of Himalayas. We will take enjoy of river rafting adventure and stay 2-3 hours in Camp near Shivpuri.
Rishikesh is 43-kms from Dehradun & 24-kms from Haridwar. Rishikesh is not only an attraction for pilgrims but it also attracts foreigners who want to know about Hinduism, who want to spend some time close to the Lord, people who love rafting come here to conquer the rapids of Ganga. Rishikesh is also an ideal base camp for trekking in the nearby Himalayas.
The suitable period for river running depends on the adequacy of water volume. Thus September-November and March-April-May are most appropriate. Most of the river established river camps near the on the Ganges above Rishikesh operate from the end of September to mid-December, and from mid-February until late April.
Rajaji National Park ( Chilla)
Chila Wildlife Sanctuary, a part of Rajaji National Park, covers an area of around 240 sq. km. which attracts wildlife lovers with its pristine scenic beauty and rich bio diversity. It has 23 species of mammals and 315 fauna species. One may watch a herd of elephants roaming majestically in the jungle or may find oneself excited by a wildlife of many kinds including tigers, leopard, jungle cat, Himalayan yellow throated marten, samber, cheetal, barking dear, wild boar, langur, ghural, sloth bear, king cobra, woodpecker, etc. The river shelters fish in abundance. Fishing is allowed with permits.
Time to visit: 15th November 15th June. No entry before sunrise and after sunset.
Chila is just 20-kms from Rishikesh. The whole place is covered with forests and provides very pleasant environment. Government has declared Chila a sanctuary. A canal from Ganga feeds the reservoir where one can spot many animals. One can stay at the tourist lodge and enjoy the peaceful scenic surroundings.
Narendra Nagar
15 kms on the Rishikesh Chamba road is located the historical town of Narendra Nagar. This town is of archaeological importance. The King of Tehri Narendra Singh built the town. Narendra Nagar has recorded many events, which have left their impact on the town. The Royal palace is worth seeing and the huge magnificent Nandi bull cannot escape your attention. Close to Narendra Nagar, situated at 7000 ft this place is covered with dense forests. From here one can get a glimpse of the peaks and valleys.
Chamba
Chamba is a small hill town, situated at an altitude of 1676 m, in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand. It is situated on the cross road of Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Tehri and New Tehri. Chamba is known as the host location for Gangotri and Yamunotri for tourists. Its environmental beauty is just like heaven. Chamba is known as the ideal place to spend holiday also.
Tehri Dam - Tehri Lake
Tehri Dam is the primary dam of the Tehri Development Project, a major hydroelectric project centered near Tehri Town in the state of Uttaranchal state in India. With a height of 260 meters (855 feet), the dam will be the fifth tallest in the world. Its reservoir will completely submerge Tehri Town and 40 villages, and partially submerge 72 villages. The dam's intended capabilities include a power generation capacity of 2400 MW, provision of irrigation to an area of 270,000 hectares, irrigation stabilization to an area of 600,000 hectares, and a supply of 270 million gallons of drinking water per day to the industrialized areas of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
New Tehri
The New Tehri town is credited with being the first planned hill town in India. It was established to rehabilitate the villages that were submerged due to the construction of Tehri Dam.
Dhanolti
Dhanaulti, located amidst thick, virgin forests of Deodar, Rhododendron and Oak, has an atmosphere of perfect peace & tranquility. The long wooded slopes, relaxed outdoors, cool crossing breeze, warm and hospitable inhabitants, lovely weather and fabulous view of snow covered mountain makes it an ideal retreat for a relaxed holiday. Situated on the Mussoorie-Chamba route, Dhanaulti is 24 kms. From Mussoorie and 29 Kms. From Chamba. Dhanaullti also provides excellent views of the snow capped Himalayan ranges.
