Rishikesh - River Rafting

Located in the lower Himalayas, Rishikesh attracts hordes of adventure lovers and tourists who come here to enjoy river rafting and camping holidays. Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) invites hundreds of thousands of adventure lovers from across the world. People from different parts of the country and the world start heading towards Rishikesh as soon as the rafting season begins. All the 13 Ganges river rapids, stretching from Kaudiyala to Rishikesh have been categorized according to international scale of river difficulties.

The adventure of river rafting in Rishikesh start between the months of September to November and again from February and June. River Rafting Adventure is not available during the monsoon months of July and August, as the level and flowing current of water rises very high during this time.

Mahakali - River Rafting

Kumaon region of Uttaranchal is again full of river rafting opportunities for the water sport enthusiasts. The River named the Kali Ganga (or River Sharda) is the best suited river for the sport. It is located along the border of India and Nepal. This also serves as the apt tourist destinations for Uttarakhand's rafting. Best time for river raftingin Kumaon is from Mid-September to Mid-May. Kumaon’s Kali Ganga (more popular as Sharda) flows from the Nepal border down the Kumaon hills.

Tons - River Rafting

The Tons is the largest tributary of the Yamuna and flows through Garhwal region in Uttarakhand, touching Himachal Pradesh. The Tons thrust is named after this river.

Its source lies in the 20,720 ft (6,316 meters) high Bandarpunch mountain, and is one of the most major perennial Indian Himalayan rivers. In fact, it carries more water than the Yamuna itself. The Tons river expedition provides the thrill of running a river that have grade 3-4 and even some grade 5 rapids. It is considered to be one of the most challenging white water rivers to run in the country and has a lot of adventure to offer.

The Tons valley is a remote area and has a culture unlike any other in the region. The villagers in the Tons valley are believed to be descendents of the Pandavas and Kauravas from the epic Mahabharata. It also has some uncommon traditions such as polygamy.

River Rafting Safety Guidelines
Do not try to go on a rafting trip alone. Always hire a guide or an instructor.
Good physical health is required to become eligible for going on a rafting trip.
Always select a lifejacket you feel safe.
Children below 12-14 years will not be allowed to river rafting adventure.

Essential Items for Rafting that you should take along are t-shirts for rafting, shorts , windproof jacket, change of clothes for camp, warm jacket for camp, footwear-2 pairs, toiletries/towel/soap, toilet paper, flashlight, sunshade/cap, sunscreen lotion, sunglasses, camera (optional), swimsuits/trunks, and personal medication (if any).

Note: Rafting only for a minimum of 5-7 participants
